Hi Smartcruiser, welcome to Cruise-Chat. Can't imagine why anyone would tell you not to tip any NCL crew, but that's not the case. The cruise line will add automatic gratuities to your shipboard account. You can adjust those tips anyway you wish. You can also give tips as you deem necessary, to anyone who gives you service. The crew go out of their way to make your cruise experience memorable. Tipping is always discretionary, and always appreciated. Best wishes and Happy Holidays!

We were told not to tip crew on any NCL.
Perhaps this is confusion over "service charge" versus "gratuity". Please look here for the NCL policy, under "what about tipping?"
