Wendy,

I imagine you could save even more money by not taking a cruise!

Yes, you can bring pop and water on board, but IMHO it really isn't worth the hassle. NCL's soda package is just USD 6.25 per person per day for unlimited fountain soda (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Tonic Water, and Soda Water).

Wendy,

We know you weren't trying to start anything. It's just that for many of us who've been here a while the questions about bringing drinks (both booze and non-booze) are never-ending and I guess we get a little tired of them. Not your fault!

Most cruise lines allow a reasonable amount of non-alcoholic drinks to be brought aboard - reasonable is often not defined and is up to the discretion of the people at check-in.

As Raoul notes, it can be a hassle and one that I certainly wouldn't want to deal with. Some people like a specific brand of soda which isn't sold on the ship, so they bring a 12-pack of it along. Water? I can't see it. Firstly, ship's water is fine to drink and secondly the ships all sell several varieties of bottled water for those who just have to have it.

I happen to like sugar-based Coke which isn't generally available in the U.S. It is in Mexico though and when we stop there I sometimes bring a couple 16 ounce bottles back to the ship.

No, sorry, never been to those ports. I've read less-than-stellar reports about Cartagena - mostly dealing with crime - but have no first hand knowledge.

Huh? Do you mean sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup? I had to check my Cherry Coke bottle to see what was in it? lol
