My husband and I just spent $10,000 on a dream of a lifetime vacation, only to have it ruined by the service on the Pride of America. We went"freestyle cruising", which means no ammenities such as clean towels, clean glasses in the stateroom, no ice and worst of all no toilet for two nights. The finer restaurants on the ship have a cover charge of $10-15 per person, should you decide on eating other than the buffet. The food in the restaurants was edible, however the buffet food was swill. Not fit for human consumption. This business of charging $10 per day per person for gratuities guarantees a tip for the stewards, who figure that they will get a tip at the end of the trip so why put any work into taking care of the passangers. We were witout a toilet for two nights. My husband and I are in our late 60s, so this was an awful convenience since we both needed to use the bathroom several times a night. I would never recommend NCL for any kind of a trip.

If you're on these sites much, you will read many posts like yours.
Wish I'd been more informed; I would have avoided NCL.
Don't give up on cruising. We are eagerly awaiting our winter one on Holland America but are VERY concerned about our upcoming NCL one.

I am sorry you had such a bad trip. I have read similar stories on this and other sites. I see that this is your first post- you will find that your rhetoric is much stronger than that usually seen on this site. I would think you just had an axe to grind, or were being inflammatory, if I hadn't just read two very similar reviews.

What are they doing at POAM? What does NCL plan on doing to reverse the bad press and placate the miserable people? Don't they realize that everyone is on the web and can have immediate access to repeated bad reviews on this ship?

I wonder why this is supposed to be "our Hawaii cruise"? Since when has Cruise-Chat.com been affiliated with NCL?!?

Hi people

this is an interesting topic. So I copied it and made a translation for the german board.
We have many members, not familiar with the english language, but very intersted in every kind of cruising and experiences, so sometimes I make some translations. Raoul, our german moderator does not have the time.

This type of situation is exactly why I am dead set against automatic gratuity's. As you said the crew new that they didn't have to do anything and would still recieve a tip.JMHO.Tom

Hi Helen,

I think, that you cant compare the Pride of America with other NCL ships. We have been on the Sun for an Indian Summer Cruise and it was absolute wonderful.

You make a wonderful tour on the wind and one of my favorite places - Hawaii. YouŽll love it.

Enjoy your cruise.

HelenMartin,

I have to agree with oppis. NCL and NCL America are two different kinds of shoes. Just relax and look forward to having a great cruise!
