Was it a NCL ship that had the fire started on a balcony by a careless smoker? Anyone know the policy about smoking in staterooms aboard the NCL ships?

Smoking is allowed in staterooms and on private balconies on NCL. However, they mentioned several times to use caution, and NEVER smoke in bed. There are sprinkler heads in the cabins. If your cabin has no ashtray, you can request one from your steward; they are weighted so they won't blow around if left out on the balcony.

It was the Star Princess that had a major fire, the fire pread so fast because the balcony dividers were made from polycarbonate.
While the location for the start of the fire has been determined, the ignition source hasn't. Failed electrical devices, a candle, or an unattendant cigarette may have been the ignition source.

Why be so quick to blame a smoker, it could have been something electrical, or a candle?

You are absolutely correct Ron, It could have been something else, I was working on information I thought I had heard on the news when the story originally broke. Blame not intended.

IN THESE SITUATION THE FIRE MAY HAVE STARTED FROM A CIGARETTE BUT YOU DO FIND AND SEE SMOKERS THROWING THEIR CIGARETTES OVERBOARD ASSUMING THEY ARE GOING TO LAND IN THE OCEAN HOWEVER USUALY THE WIND BLOWS THEM AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A CIGARETTE THROWN FROM A HIGHER DECK AND BEEN BLOWN BACK ONTO A BALCONY....SO THE CULPRIT WILL NEVER BE FOUND BUT SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS WHO THEY ARE!!!!
