Well - we just got back from a 23 day cruise from Vancouver, BC Canada to New York on the Spirit. We found the boat lovely. Lots of wood and rich decor. The food was better than adequate, although we chose to eat most of our meals in Windows - or for fast meals in the Blue Lagoon where the rice bowls, chili and hamburgers were excellent and cooked fresh right in front of you. We found the vegetables in all restaurants to be good. Not overdone but crisp and colorful. Our cabin was good. Picture window - not balcony. This cruise was a code red early and on talking to many of the passengers they booked last Jan - March. The bathrooms were great. Separate toilet and shower stalls but the best was the design of the shelves above the sink. Plenty of room to put all your lotions, pills etc. and then store away your cosmetic bag. Plenty of closet space and we did 23 days. We had ice delivered to the room every day at 4 with no problem. Rose, our housekeeper was excellent and the room would always be made up on our return. We were with two other couples and they had no complaints either. We found the NCL entertainers and dancers great. Lots of variety for the shows. We sat with one of the entertainers that got on in Acapulco and was getting off just before we entered the Panama Canal. She said she likes NCL the best of the medium priced cruise ships such as HA, Celebrity etc. The ship was clean. The staff were always smiling and laughing - ready to do any little request we wanted. We got to know several of them and they seemed to be happy at what they are doing. I have to say that the gym is the best I have ever seen on a cruise ship. About fifteen elipitical and treadmills - with TV screens attached to each one - so take your headphones. All types of equipment and weights. A wonderful steamroom and sauna and spa area for women where one can relax after a workout and a steam and just enjoy the view. This is about our ninth cruise and except for a minor complaint to do with a tender that turned out not to be the fault of NCL but the Mexican Government - we were pleasantly surprised. Getting on the ship in Vancouver and getting off and to the airport in New York were both orderly and fairly fast. I know there is always things to complain about if people want to but you get what you pay for and we felt with this 23 day cruise we got more than we paid for. Unfortunately for us this ship is now cruising out of New York and I don't think it will be back on the West Coast.

Wow- that is so great to hear. I cruised on Spirit in April and I loved it, too. I agree that the gym is absolutely gorgeous. We were just on CCL Elation this summer and the gym was on the bow, and the bright sunlight coming in the windows was more than a distraction- you had to squint the whole time.

Great to read your post!!

I'm happy to read you had a grand time on the Spirit. Although longer than normal cruises, Panama Canal cruises must be a very great experience.

Hi Bridgette,
Its nice to hear you had a good time.....I was on the same cruise and found the entire trip exceeded my expectations! After reading some of the negative reviews before leaving...I was a little worried about what I might find once onboard, but instead I too feel I got my monies worth and much more! The ship was lovely and the staff were superb, the food was really tasty and even the casino didn't take too much of my money! The wait times for Windows and The Garden were about 10 minutes and no wait if you went around 7:30; and there was never a wait at the buffet. The only complaint I could have would be about the shore excursions we went on.....after the first three were disappointing,(Shotover Jet Boat in Acapulco, Outrigger Canoe in Costa Rica and Snorkel the Antilla in Aruba) we cancelled the rest and just walked off the ship and took taxis for private tours. And as you said, we also found the embarkation and disembarkation process went quite smoothly. I will definately recommend NCL Spirit in the future for those that want a nice relaxing cruise on a beautiful ship!
