Norwegian Majesty New Year's Cruise Cancelled!

Because of engine problems, the December 30 sailing of Norwegian Majesty has been cancelled. Read about it here.

Although a 50% discount on a future cruise and a full refund may sound good, to me it really is not adequate compensation given this is a New Year's cruise - something that people look forward to as unique and usually have to book well in advance.

Hopefully they came up with some quick alternatives for the guests ready to board and didn't just leave them high and dry. This really is a no-win situation for NCL but their best bet would be to first assist in finding accomodations in Charleston, and then offer full refund with 100% future credit, seeing New Years is a unique cruise opportunity.

What a shame. I agree that the cruise credit should be higher given the fact that this was a New Years cruise as well as the very short notice given.

The auxiliary engines didn't break down until Friday, which doesn't give NCL much time to call everyone for a Saturday sailing.
The electricity is out throughout the ship. Air conditioning turned off. Early reports from other cruises reported humid interiors Friday night. Many sleeping with doors to their cabins open or sleeping in public rooms.
I feel more sorry for those aboard than those expecting to sail on this week's canceled cruise. I hope NCL can repair the auxiliary engines (used for the generators) quickly.

Sure, but from a passenger's point of view, this is still little notice. Many were probably at the port already, or at least on their way. And, as this is a holiday week, alternate plans are not easily made.

I still contend that this is little compensation to the affected pax. Celebrity gave a full refund PLUS a free cruise of equal value when the 12/10 Millennium cruise was cancelled, and that was done three weeks in advance.

I was one of the passengers on this cruise, and I was very disappointed to find when we pulled into the parking lot, after a 5 hour drive, that the cruise was canceled. The compensation is inadequate.

All I can say to those that had their trip cancelled, I am sorry, however, BE GLAD you did not have to go through what we went through for our Christmas cruise. The electrical problems were happening throughout the cruise. NCL should offer you fair compensation as well to those of us who had to endure their feeble attempts to put us at ease. Staff was no where to be found, and when you did find one, they were running off into the "staff only" section wtih fans.

For the New Years cruisers on the Majesty: Count your lucky stars that you weren’t on that piece of junk. When the electricity went off 24 hours before our ship got back into Charleston, the crew started to scatter into the Staff Only Areas. They basically disappeared and left the passengers to fend for themselves. I don’t know who the Captain is of the Majesty, but he did a very poor job. NCL is the worst cruise line in the business.

The Majesty lost an engine or two in November. Passengers were not told of the problem until the ship left Charleston for Bermuda. We ended up spending 2 days in Bermuda instead of 4 and were compensated $124.00 toward a future cruise. What a crock!
