Every ship seemsto be different. Do the tips automatically getted billed to your sail and sign account or are you free to give whatever you want to the staff. on the RCCL we were given envelopes to hand out. I have never been on NCL - what is the procedure>>

NCL adds a $10 per day service charge per adult to your account. Children are charged $5 per day, depending upon their ages. Additionally, a 15% charge is automatically added to account with each drink you may purchase aboard.
This service charge should be considered a minimum amount. You're free to give additional tips in whatever way you choose.
