Again I will be cruising the Majesty from Charleston in October. One of the stops is Great Stirrup Cay...Can anybody give me advice on what to do here? Is there something you should not miss?
Can anybody tell me what is the best location for a stateroom so you don't get noise etc. Some of the reviews say they heard kitchen noise early morning and half the night. I would also like to know about the least motion and a view that will not be obstructed.
What about recommending the best times to eat without having to wait. I have never cruised freestyle before and some of the reviews say they had to wait a long time.
I did check out the website, but i did not get a lot of information there. Any other suggestions
Great Stirrup Cay is NCL's private island in Bahamas. This day is simply a beach day with a barbeque/buffet ashore. Except from a few NCL employees and a cat called OP the island is unhabitated.
I know it can be a little noisy if you have a cabin all the way fwd or all the way aft on deck 9. This is because of the galleys for the Royal cafe and the outdoor restaurant.
The least motion of a ship would be amidships and the best views are probably cabins on deck 9.
When it comes to the least busy meal times I'm not sure as I always ate in the officer's mess.
Hi kristina. As I mentioned in my other post, I've been a passenger on this ship four times, most recently in August 2006.
I disagree with Svein that Deck 9 has the best views. Many cabins on Decks 8 and 9 have obstructed views due to the lifeboats. The best views, IMO, are on Deck 6. The cabins on Deck 7 overlook the outdoor promenade, making the ocean harder to see.
I've stayed in several locations on the ship and never found them noisy. These include forward on Deck 6, midship on Deck 7, midship on Deck 8 (obstructed view) and far forward on Deck 9. I do think that Deck 6 cabins just outside the casino might be noisy, but having never stayed in one, I cannot say this with certainty.
Best times to eat without waiting -- arrive before 6:00 pm or after 8:00 pm. The midship restaurant is smaller, so you will have more luck with the aft dining room during peak times. You can also make a reservation in the Pasta Cafe on Deck 9 (no surcharge) or Le Bistro on Deck 5 (surcharge) - but do so early in the cruise in case the spots fill. You can make your reservations at one of the service desks on Deck 5. They'll even have menus for you to review.
Great Stirrup Cay is NCL's "private island" in the Bahamas. It's a beach day. You will be tendered in (unlike Disney). There's a beach BBQ, which is OK, nothing special. It's a nice way to spend the day, though.
Thanks for all the information. Kristina
