Shore Excursions

We're taking our 2nd cruise to Alaska on the NCL Wind 9/7/2003. Any suggestions as to shore excursions? The first time, we played fast and loose, and had some good and bad experiences. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Ketchikan is a great walking-around-on-your-own port. I don't think it is worth it to pay for shore excursions through the cruise lines here. You can go and do things on your own very easily here.
The railway in Skagway was great! The whale-watching in Juneau for us was not good at all. If you go all the way up to Seward, be sure to take the cruise around the Kenii peninsula. This is generally not a shore excursion; you must book it on your own.
Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time.
