Yes! It's sitting on the bottom (in several feet of water), listing to one side, after water got into the lower decks (possibly during a storm). Raoul, care to comment? You're closer geographically to the situation than I am!
We are booked on the June 20, Pride of America cruise from San Fran to Honolulu. We just heard that NCL is going to take the Norweigan Sky out of service in April and refit her to become the Pride of Aloha. (this was planned to happen in August/September, but will now happen in April) The Pride of Aloha will then take over the Pride of America runs until the America is ready. Our reservations are being transfered. Those booked on the Norweigan Sky's summer Alaksa cruises are being transfered to other NCL ships in Alaska.
yes, Lloyd Werft has filed for insolvency. The reason is that NCL did not make a progress payment as there wasn't any progress. Subcontractors could not be paid, so in accordance with German laws the yard had to file for insolvency.
However, work continues normally, and the yard is currently in no immediate danger of shutting down.
Thanks very much for the latest info on Pride of America. Since I've booked with NCL (on the Dawn on 3/14) I've taken a lot of interest in this beautiful ship. Much of what I have learned has come from your posts.
I'm glad to hear that Lloyd Werft is in no real danger, they are part of the Hapag-Lloyd group are they not? I remember that company from many days spent in and around the airport at Frankfurt A.M. when I was stationed in your country in 1978 thru 1980.
Anyway, thanks again, I enjoy your insights on the shipbuilding and cruising industry and always look forward to your next post!
