Hi everyone! My husband and I will be going on our first cruise this fall to the Bahamas on The Dawn. We are so excited as we've wanted to go on a cruise forever. It is an anniversary cruise for us.

Anyway, just a few questions. Do we need a passport for this trip? I've read so many different things and some of the sites say you just need a driver's license/birth certificate, etc. I think the new procedure goes into effect this December but I want to make sure we won't need passports.

Are you permitted to bring your own beverages on board the ship? I've seen some posts where people say they've brought 12 packs of soda with them. My husband drinks A LOT of soda and I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their own or would recommend buying the soda card.

Last, has anyone taken this trip in October before? Any comments on the Carribbean in the fall?

Thanks so much to all!

Hello,

A passport is a nice thing to have and I thought it was now madatory for cruising but if you don't have one and they don't require one then go ahead.

Yes most ships will let you bring on beverages but you should stuff them in either a carry-on bag or an extremely durable suitcase. The last thing you want is ruptured beverages mixed with your clothes. The key is to be discreet and don't try walk onboard with a vending machine supply of soda.

October in the caribbean? Should be nice however that is the back end of hurricane season. Just don't be suprised if you have to dodge a weather system.

Don't forget to put a bathing suit in your carry-on bag so that you can get some pool time before your baggage shows up in your room on the arrival day.

Anyway enjoy and have a fun time.
