What is the best side of the ship to book a balcony cabin to see the inside passage from your private balcony.

Hi Nipperoni1 and welcome to Cruise Chat.

Is your cruise one way, or round trip from Seattle or Vancouver? If one way, is it northbound or southbound?

To my mind, the very best way to see the Inside Passage is to wear appropriate clothing and view it from high up and outside on the ship. You'll get a 360 degree view, and can change sides of the ship depending on what you want to see.

Thanks for your reply. Our trip is scheduled for May 30, 2009 and will be roundtrip out of Seattle on the Star. Any info on what to see and do would be appreciated.

Hi Nipperoni1,

Congratulations on going to Alaska on a cruise. If you have a choice, I'd choose starboard, because as you go north, you can see either the mainland or islands almost all the way on that side. We have seen wildlife including bears, dolphins and whales from our balcony in the past. (Bring your binnoculars). There is lots to see on the other side too, since there are so many islands on that side too. Either way, you'll have a great time.
