FRS Radios on ship and shore

Does anyone know if the walkie-talkie type FRS radios are legal on the ships and Mexico/Guatamala/Belize specifically? Would we need a license to use them overseas?

Hmm, interesting question.

As a holder of an FCC General Class, you'd think I'd know that answer.

The fcc website www.fcc.gov may be able to help.

In my personal opinion these radios are such short range that it probably will not be an issue. I'd say you should be more concerned with whether the cruise line would have any trouble with them. I'd still think you're safe since any of their [NCL's] portable communication is going to operate in a different band.

You da Man Dave! Just what I wanted to know. It looks like on the ship should be no problem. Wanted to use them to keep in touch in case we go our separate ways on the ship anyway. If I could use them off-shore, that would have been great too, but no essential.
