What time to board for 4pm departure - SF port

First timer on the Wind. Departure in April is 4pm. When should I arrive at the port to board? Any hints? How to pack? This is not like an airplane!

You must be aboard the ship by 3:30 pm, or you may not get aboard.

I would arrive at the pier around 11:00 am. The sooner you get aboard, the more likely you'll be able to reserve dinner at a speciality restaurant when you wish to eat.
That also gives you an opportunity to eat a free lunch before the ship gets underway.
