I recieved a new NCL brochure today. And there is a statement that they do not charge for gratuitys. I thought all of the major lines had auto grats! I geuss not. It says passengers are encouraged to give gratuitys for exceptional service in cash. Is this correct?

NCL does indeed have a service fee. They put it right on you onboard account. In fact; NCL was one of the first to instill the automatic gratuities. They charge $12 per day, per person.

Note that NCL uses the wording carefully. The service charge is automatic and generally not removable. They classify gratuities as something extra, beyond the service charge.

Look HERE under tipping and service charge.

That is very interesting. I always let the auto grat go on Carnival and celebrity. But in the case of excellant or above and beyond service I slip the person involved cash. I do not do it with an envelope because I want the individual to get all of it. The auto grats a re shared so the ones that don't go above and beyond get the same. Noy fair in my book. Viet
