We are booked on a Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Jewel Sep 5 2006. What is the currency onboard?
Any comments about the Norwegian Jewel in general.
We have previously travelled on the Norwegian Wind and Norwegian Star.
NCL is based in Miami, so I expect the currenc to be American dollars. Never-the-less, there's really no money used onboard the ship. upon checking in, you'll get a room card that you used to charge your expenses, which you can pay with your credit card, traveler checks, or cash.
Doesn't your credit card take care of currency differences?
As we are from New Zealand, we are interested to know what purchases onboard are going to cost us in New Zealand dollars if the currency onboard is US Dollars.
We are going on the Jewel in October 2006. We were on the Dream in Alaska in September. As Ron said, there is no exchange of cash on the ship. All purchases (alcohol, bingo, ship shops)are posted to your ship account. You will get a printout on your last night which gives a detailed account of all your purchases, including the daily tip charges. Your credit card company will convert US dollars into your currency, but I don't know if NCL will. NCL does not have an email service, but you might want to call their 800 number and ask.
