Joining a trend which is sweeping across the industry, NCL today announced that they have rolled out a new process for the emergency drill. As other lines have already started doing, passengers will no longer bring their lifejackets to the drill. When the drill commences, passengers will go directly to their muster station and receive emergency instructions and crew will demonstrate donning and removing the jacket.

For reasons not explained, the Pride Of America is not part of the new process yet and will continue with the old method.

Sounds like they may have been rolling it out gradually. This was already in place on our N. Jade cruise in April out of Barcelona. It was nice to not have to trip over straps (ours or others') on the way to and from the muster station. For those familiar with how Princess runs their muster drills, this was pretty much the same.

Yes, that is what RCI did. They started on a couple ships to see how it worked and then added the rest of the fleet over a few weeks.

Speaking of tripping over straps - that is exactly what "NCL Andy" said today at the web conference. "I've tripped over my last lifejacket strap!" he announced the new program.

No lifejackets during the muster drill on the Oasis in Jan.....It only makes least, in my opinion....Happy sailing and less tripping....

Bob E, how big is that pumpkin?

Berick1234 06-03-2010 04:59 PM

Hi Penny,

It was only a 559 pounder, which is small in the world of BIG pumpkins...It was grown at the Minnesota Zoo Farm...and then given to our 3 BIG brown bears to play for a video of the bears....going for a 1,000 plus pumpkin this year....Happy Sailing...

We didn't have to take lifejackets to our drill on Celebrity Millenium last month either. At least now we don't have to remember which cruise line wanted you to wait for the demonstration to put the jacket on vs. the ones that gave us trouble for not putting them on right away.

We didn't need them on the April 24th NCL Pearl cruise. First time with out them and it was nice.
