My Fiance and I are getting married September 1st of this year, and We've been having a hard time deciding what to do for our honeymoon. After a few silly suggestions from family members, we decided that a cruise best fit our needs. After Looking around online for many days, we narrowed it down to the one we want to take.
The Norwegian Sky. 4 Night Cruise to the Bahamas.
We liked the fact that Norwegian has its own little island, the Great Sturrip Cay, and that it is "freestyle" dining. Being stuck at a table with people we dont know, wasnt really the ideal situation for our honeymoon.
The point in this was to ask, Has anyone taken this particular cruise? Any suggestions on what to do? What not to miss? Really ANY advice from packing, to extra money, to shore excursions would REALLY help. We're kind of a shy couple, and this will be our first adventure out of our comfort zone as a married couple. :D
Thanks in advance!
It is hard to beat a cruise for a honeymoon!
I believe at least two of our staff members have taken that cruise, so hopefully they will provide some comments.
Most new cruisers overpack. Even a lot of us old cruisers still bring more than we use. A wise friend tells people to 'pack for your cruise, and then go back and remove half of what you packed'. I think he is correct.
You might be surprised to learn that all the mainstream cruise lines offer a freestyle dining choice. Norwegian doesn't tell anyone that, but it is true. You can do a variation of freestyle on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess. They just call it by a different name. You can have a different dining time each night if you choose, and also be seated by yourselves. Just like Norwegian does.
Royal Caribbean also has a private island, and in fact it is just a few hundred yards away from Great Stirrup Cay. They call it "Coco Cay" but it's legal name is Little Stirrup Cay.
On Great Stirrup Cay you are essentially on the ship as far as money matters go. You will use your cruise card to pay for drinks. A straw market set up by locals does require cash (dollars are fine).
I've been on the Norwegian Sky a couple times. It's a fun ship for a short cruise. Food and entertainment is good. The day at Great Stirrup Cay will be a beach day with BBQ and water sports. Most people going to Bahamas the first time like to go over to the big Atlantis Casino, do an island tour, or snorkeling at Cable Beach or Blue Lagoon.
We def want to go snorkeling.. Any one place better then the other?
First, try to get over your shyness. DO STUFF. Talk to people, get on the stage when you have a chance. Cruises are great places to meet and talk to others and when the cruise is over it's done unless you made such a good friend you keep in touch. And while I usually have a big enough crowd to command my own dinning table the few cruises that we shared a table hold some of my best memories. A table for just the 2 of you is not necessarily the best thing. You can do that anywhere.
A thought about Atlantis. I thought it was a bust. unless you take a tour that include the aquarium you have to pay extra (like $40) to get in. We asked some folks there and they said it was not worth $40. So unless you want to gamble it was a waste. I think you can gamble on the ship if that is your style, at least you can on Carnival.
