Back and headed for Breakaway!
Hi everyone!

Wow, have I missed this message board! My hubby and I were major cruise addicts and had built up to two cruises a year but then we opened a small business in late 2012 and weren't able to take any cruises in 2013. I know, first world problems. The good news is, the business is doing great, and we're finally at a point where we're able to cruise again! I'm back and just reading all of your posts and seeing familiar names makes me giddy! Looking forward to escaping the horrid Michigan winter.

We're booked on Breakaway and I've been seeing a lot of negative reviews around the web, so I'm a little concerned. Seems like most ships have a mix, and I take the whiny ones with a grain of salt, but there seems to be so many bad ones for Breakaway that it's a little worrying. Any tips, tricks, observations etc. from those who have been?

We're in a Spa Balcony, so if anyone's been in one of those, would love to hear more!

This site has been invaluable in the past, so I'm thrilled to be back. Thanks in advance, and I wish you all safe, exciting travels! :)

Hi Cortney!

I am just now pulling up to the dock in New Orleans after a week of cruising - really! We are just a few hundred yards away.

You will love the Breakaway. The travel press people I have asked about it say it is a great ship and cruise experience.

I am attending the naming ceremony for the Getaway next month. Very exciting.

Hi Courtney,
I remember you chatting out here. We got off the Breakaway in Oct. You may have read my review. You will have a wonderful time. We had a few hiccups but nothing to take away from a wonderful cruise. If you have the Spa Balcony with the Hot Tub in the Cabin, that will be extra nice, lucky you! The ship is beautiful. I Hope Fire & Ice are still there you will love them. I first saw them on the Dawn I think and they are so very good. We went to two specialty restaurants and that was very nice and we liked the Manhattan Room for dinner too. Welcome back and Bon Voyage !!!

Thanks, guys! I don't think I have a hot tub in the room it's 14122 FWD. We booked a spa balcony because I like to go to the gym (to work off the massive amounts of food I vacuum down, ha) and we like the Exotic Thermal Suite, especially when leaving out of NY and having the cold days at the beginning and end.

Which specialty restaurants would you recommend? So many to choose from, I need to plan! ;)

This last time on the Breakaway we went to the Brazilian Churrascaria and Teppanyaki. We real did enjoy both and there is always Cagney's too. There are so many places to eat on the ship. I think O'Sheehan is just OK for a quick bit or breakfast, Google NCL Dinning Guide and you will see all the choices for The Breakaway. I wanted to try Blu but my husband does not eat any Seafood. I heard it was excellent.

Just got off the Breakaway this morning. Full review to come, but all I can say is ... WOW. An incredible ship we were absolutely blown away! I wish I could have stayed on for another week or two or 10!

I am currently on the Getaway and am frankly very happy. Love the ship. I would book this again without hesitation.

How was getting on board the Breakaway with all the Super Bowl crowds.
I seen pictures of the Getaway covered in snow when it left the day
after the Super Bowl.

It wasn't bad at all! We arrived very early. We stayed in Mt. Laurel, NJ, and hired a car to drive us in in the morning because we were nervous about the crowds. At 9 am, there was no traffic at all and everything seemed to run very smoothly! We arrived at the port around 9:45 and were on the ship around 11:30.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 05:10 AM.
