St. Thomas was a different matter. I totally loved St. Thomas and would love to return someday.

In St. Thomas we did snorkeling in Turtle Cove (fantastic!), Butterfly Farm, and the Skyride. I had a lot of fun that day.

I don't know if it holds true for all "encounters", however, it sounds like it might. If you do a dolphin "encounter" and not "swim or royal swim", you don't get to swim with the dolphins. You do get to touch them and kiss them, but you don't get to swim in with them. The "swim" and the "royal swim" are fantastic and worth every cent (for the dolphins). The beach in Samana looks wonderful, Maurine, thank you for posting it. Even with aggressive vendors, I'd rather be there than here right now

Penny, this was our first time doing excursions so we were novices when it came to reading between the lines. But the Sea Lion Encounter did specifically say that we would be swimming with the sea lions. I don't consider me standing in the water while one sea lion swims past me as "swimming with sea lions."

However, lesson learned and I did consider doing a dolphin swim in Puerto Vallarta, but ultimately decided not to. Maybe another time.

That's basically all there is to Samana. If you do go, use the path that doesn't take you past the sellers. Wish I'd done that. I got sucked into buying two sarongs. I asked if they were made in DR and was told yes. Later when I looked at the tag it said "made in India". Live and learn.

Take the Tram ride in St. Thomas...You get a wonderful view of the bay and there is a restaurant and bar up on the top...great way to spend some quiet time....I think it was $18 to go up and you can stay as long as you want....

Have a smashing good cruise..
