Thinking about NCL on the Jewel...have already cruised on Triumph on Carnival in January 2009 thinking of this NCL for 2010...Kind of worried about so many restaurants, it states 12...how many of the 12 do not charge anything? How would it compare to the Triumph out of Miami on Carnival...Is that the same Triumph now going out of New Orleans?

Hi James22

The two main dining rooms, the buffet and the Blue Lagoon are all free restaurants. I think the rest have a varied rate of extra charge.

The Jewel is a beautiful ship -- but I have not been on Carnival so I can't compare the two.

On the NCL Jewel the restaurants charging extra fees will be:
1)The French Style.............Le Bistro
2) The Steakhouse.............Cagney's
3) The Italian.....................La Cuccina
4) The Hipspanic/Tex/Mex...Mambos Tapas
5) The Oriental...................Lotus Garden
6) The Japanese.................Teppanyaki

All the rest are no charge!!! Some of the Specialty restaurants will offer 2 for 1 dining....watch your daily bulletins as they are a bargain!!

Bon Voyage,

Hi again James22-

I had a brief interruption and didn't quite finish my responce but I'm baaaaack!!!

The Carnival Triumph you refer to is the same ship. She does not offer a Specialty restaurant but she offers equally fine dining!! I recently sailed on her to Canada and had an absolute blast!

There is a different flavor to NCL vs, CCL-they are both excellent ships sailing for great cruiselines. You need not fear booking either ship...a good time and a restful cruise awaits you!!

I am thinking about the Jewel in the spring.I have never sailed NCL before and don't know quite what to expect? They have the best price out there right now. Viet

Your experience should be similar to Carnival. A lot more pay restaurants though. Drink prices may be higher, although I think all the cruise lines are raising prices. I just came off RCI and thought drink prices have really gone up.

No need to fear NCL- You'll find beautiful ships, friendly crews, a wonder of dining options and great entertainment. Except for the fact that you'll be traveling "Freestyle" which gives you more control over what you'd like to do and when you'd like to do it the differences you'll note will be more similar to sailing on any new and different ship! NCL is a favorite cruiseline...I will be sailing on the NCL Jewel in Feb 2011!! Enjoy!!

Bon Voyage,

Deck 12 on the Jewel is equivalent to Carnival's Lido. They have a hard icecream hand dipped station on this deck.
