At ceremonies earlier today, NCL signed the papers and received their owner's manual and manufacturers warranty for the Norwegian Epic. No word on if they will get free oil changes for life. Press Release

I'll be listening in on a web conference in a couple of hours with "NCL Andy". I'm sure it'll be a recap of the ceremony along with other "exciting" news that they've already leaked to the larger cruise sites and news outlets.

I'm getting more and more excited. Sure hope they don't have anymore fires and that we get to sail on her in October!

Cruise is paid for, thank heavens. Just need to book excursions and entertainment. They haven't opened up the entertainment on their site for our cruise.

From the conference...

Facial recognition software for photo shop will match photos to the guest.

DigiHD TVs in cabins will have a gaming choice with video poker and slots.

Many new videos posted on You Tube. Enter Norwegian Epic and you'll see.

Online reservations for dining rooms, shows, etc., will open 45 days before your cruise.

21 dining choices. 11 are included in the cruise price.

They will announce the winner of the Epic talent contest this Friday.

The ship actually looks better in the photos than it did in the original artist conceptions and computer generated images.

According to this USA Today report Gene Sloan doesn't think much of the new bathroom layout on the Epic. (in the 6pm entry)

USA Today is reporting that a propeller shaft problem on the Epic will cause the ship to be 7.5 hours late when it sails from Rotterdam to Southampton. The ship will now arrive at 5:30pm instead of 10am. NCL says the problem will be fixed at Southampton and will not affect the next sailing.

The distance between the two ports is 229 nautical miles, or 263 land miles. For those wondering, under the original time the ship would average 12 knots. With the added time the speed will average 9 knots. I suspect one screw will be offline.

Update: The UK newspaper Daily Echo is reporting it is a major engine failure and refunds have been offered to those booked on the sailing from Rotterdam to Southampton.

Paul Motter has written an article based on first reports from the Epic by other journalists. You can read it HERE
