Does NCL have 2 dress up nights on a 7 night cruise? Do they have a captains night with introductions of staff and drinks?NCL cruising is new to us. We have cruised many times on other lines I think 29, but not NCL.So I am asking questions as I think of them.
They have "dress up or not" nights in keeping with their Freestyle approach to cruising, so there are no designated "formal" nights where an expectation for formal wear exists. I think NCL has eliminated the Captain's cocktail party, but don't take my word for it since it's been a while since I last cruised with them. I think it is just a photo op now.
and Formal Night, has really been dressed down....I just bring a sport coat now and wear a tie one night, and not the second night....you will see lots of "resort casual"...
Wear what you want and have a smashing good time...
We did receive a note in our Cabin on the night that was formal and it did say just what Dave mentioned, "Dress up or Not" some were in Tux and gown and others in shorts. I sure do not remember a Captain's Cocktail party. I guess that is why it is FreeStyle. Pack light and have a ball
We wish that they would not go away with no FORMAL nights at all. This is why we love Princess as they still have Formals nights. With Princess you have a choice on these nights, either go to the dining room dress up or just go up to the buffet, as no one force you to dress up. The world is going too casual in our opinion, it's alright semi business wear, but no shorts. We look forward to these Formal nights and as well Princess still has the captain party which is something we also look forward to as well. We wish that we can get our kids to dress up sometimes, but it's awful.
Carnival is the same way. Dress up or not! They have done away with the captains night and the party. They do however have a repeaters party. The captains night is now just a informal get together in one of the public areas and you buy your own drinks.
Wooden,
I agree with you and that is why you see I take a lot of Celebrity cruise. I think it is fun to play Barbie and Ken once in awhile. It is great to have choices like Princess and Celebrity who still maintain the old way of cruising. So many do not agree with us so they have Carnival and NCL.
...and for us, we like NCL for that reason!
I have to wear a suit and tie every day for work, so frankly, the last thing I want to do on vacation is to put on a suit and tie!
We just wore a nice sportshirt and a pair of khakis and we were fine....

They have the dress up or not - and everything counts. For repeat cruisers, they do have a special "captain's reception" - at least they did last year when we went on the Pearl.
