Hi!
We're cruising around hawai'ian islands and fanning island in september. What do you think about excursions on our own by car rental? Is it possible to rent an car in the harbours/citys, where the ships arrive? I didn't find informations about this in portreviews.com.
Hilo - Big Island
Kahului - Maui
Lahaina - Maui
Nawiliwili - Kauai
Kona - Big Island
Any more good ideas?

Yes, you can definitly rent cars in each of those ports. I used Alamo as they had the best pricing, with the exception of Maui. You want to make sure you rent from a company that has a satellite office in Lahaina/Kaanapali as the airport is so far away from the port. I am presently on a cruise so I do not have the informatoin available, but as soon as I return (Sept 7) I can check my files at home and will be happy to report back to you.

We are on the Wind in September - - we have rented a car for Kahului through Hertz. I was told there is a courtesy phone when we get off the ship and that they come to us at the pier.
