Hi, took out NCL's travel ins. for the 3 of us that leave this sunday, now it looks like one might not be able to go as her husband turned very sick, will she be able to get anything back from ncl or is she just out of luck?
thanks
wendy
Hi wendy. I am terribly sorry to hear the news of your friend. I hope he is able to make a full recovery.
I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of NCL's travel insurance. Nearly all policies cover cancellation due to illness of a passenger; many will also cover cancellation due to illness of a close, non-traveling member. Depending upon when you bought the policy, pre-existing conditions may be covered, but not necessarily so. Documentation from his doctor will be required.
I suggest that you contact your travel agent for details in this case, and for next steps. (I forget if you used a TA.) I'll also defer to others on this board who are more familiar with the policy you purchased. It was the policy that NCL offers, right?
Again, I hope all turns out well for your friend's husband.
Yes it was the travel ins. with NCL that we purchased and we didn't use a TA, we booked directly with NCL, and not sure if I can make heads or tails out of there fine print lol
thanks, Wendy
That's a shame but it is good you got the insurance. HERE is an overview of the NCL Travel Protection policy. According to it, your friend will get a full refund since an immediate family member is sick.
But regardless, she needs to immediately contact whoever you booked the cruise with (agent, NCL directly, whatever) and get the process started.
So sorry about your friend's husband, and prayers for him. Please let us know how things work out, I was never a big fan of the travel insurance, but I am changing my mind. I haven't had any problems, but insurance is for the what ifs like this.

Oh wendy_woo2, I am so very sorry to hear about this. You wait and anticipate and plan and work so hard to take a cruise, then you get ill. I do hope your friend will be fine! As everyone has already stated, call ASAP and get the ball rolling. All insurance companies are quick to take your money, but not so quick to return it
I know your cruise won't be as much fun, but I still hope y'all have a great time! Best wishes and Bon Voyage
This is a great example for a person to get Travel Insurance....I never use to...but after sitting on the runaway in a snowstorm in MN...it changed my mind for the next 12 cruises...You never know what will happen...even on the way to the airport....It's something you don't want to use, but so much nicer to know you are covered if you do...Happy Cruising Wendy.....
