My husband & I are 60 yr. old & in average physical condition or better. We need early departure off the Spirit in New Orleans. We understand we will be carrying our luggage off the ship. It is rolling luggage & not overly packed. Will we encounter steps? Can anyone tell us what to expect @ the port there when we get off the ship? sommarescape@yahoo.com

Hi sommar, welcome to Cruise-Chat! Congratulations on your up-coming cruise! The only stairs you will encounter will be if the elevators are jammed, then you will end up walking down the stairs. If you're doing the self-debarkation, get an early start to avoid the elevators being crammed. You have all these people, with all their luggage, trying to get off at once. Many times, we've just taken the stairs. The terminal will have the escalators and elevators, they too will be crowded, but doable.

Best wishes for a fantastic cruise!

Just remember, the ships' crew can't help you with your luggage off the ship...and yes, there will be many people trying to get off early too....
