We are considering Norwegian for our next cruise. What is the policy on tipping? We love Celebrity lines but they are getting very pricy and this is the only reason we are considering another line. I don't want anything that is Carnival owned so this is kind of limiting.
Thanks in advance. Tom
The $10 per person per day is simply for the basic gratuities. Cocktails, beer and wine all carry a 15% gratuitiy that is added right onto your bill. The specialty restaurant (most of them) do have an additional service charge. Depending on the restaurant it usually runs $15 to $25 per person.
In addition to the 15% mandatory gratuity that is added when you buy a drink, there is also a place for you to give an "additional gratuity".
if I remember correctly, when they announced the service fee they also said that there would be no automatic gratuity on drinks. Did they change this, again?
Raoul: I was on the norweign Dawn in June and every time my wife and I had a drink there was a 15% service charge added to the bill. The first time I didn't tip and got a look from the server. The next time we went into the lounge she didn't run over to serve us, I got the point and from that point on it was one dollar a drink in addition to the auto gratuity.- Glenn
thanks. One must not wonder that everybody is confused when it comes to NCL's gratuity policy if they change it so often. I had a look and indeed I still have their press release on file where they claimed that there would be no 15% automatic gratuity on drinks.
