This is our first trip to Northern Europe. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, we are taking the 2 day pre cruise to London. Our first time there as well.

You are going to have the time of your lives!

Are you up to walking and taking bike rides?
They offer so many excursions it's unreal.. but I have to ask did you visit the excursion list on NCL and read up to see which ones appeals to you?

Good idea is go to this website and print them out.. See which ones appeal to you and book them.. You are allow to change your mind!

Please bring back pics and post them and we will now ask you what excursions you think are the best!

Here is the link: http://164.109.173.140/download/euro...003_022803.pdf

If you have any questions you are welcome to email directly.

Bon Voyage!

GOOD LUCK! By now it may be too late for you to receive this. Just returned from the ill-fated April 28,2003 same itinerary as yours. Ship did not sail to St. Petersburg and cruise line officials lied to us by not informing us about change in ports of call until 1 hour prior to sailing from Dover. Possible class action law suit to be filed. You might want to keep your eye on this chat site for further info if your cruise suffered similar fate. Will never sail on Norwegian again! There are much better companies to chose from. This was first time on them (veteran cruiser) AND LAST!

I was also on the April 28 cruise to Scandinavia. Dee, I'm curious if you as a travel agent were made aware of the change in the itinerary by NCL and, if so, when. Also, do you know if the itinerary for the current (sailing 5/10) cruise includes St. Petersburg?

They send us faxes daily or email with news update! it the time allows.

We are then suppose to aide by informing our clients and in many cases NCL do offer some sort of incentive to the clients that are already booked or will transfer them to another sailing of their choice without penalties.

But you really need to work with an agent to be on top of these things. NCL can't contact everyone and sometimes as the gentleman before stated it's at the last minute when no one can do anything but disregard the prior plans and do what is in the best interest of the passengers and ship.

I hope I answered you Grandma, if not you are welcome to email directly. I dont' consider talking about cruises spam.

BAS-We saw the photos of the ice jam that changed your cruise and wondered when all the passengers got the bad news. I am sorry you did not get to Russia. We are in our 50s and thought we would never get to stand on Russian soil. I would have been so disappointed had I been in your shoes. Anyway, this was our second cruise and we would not use NCL as our first choice from now on. The ship was nice, the areas we visited beautifulbutwe had some things about NCL we did not care for. First and foremost, we did not know smoking would be allowed on board. And, boy did they smoke! Alos, we did not like the flat tipping/service charge idea. We have always taken care of the those who took care of us and we saw too many slackers who will get part of that tip pool to satisfy us.Some of the staff in the restaurants were downright sullen. Then, NCL had some funny policies about things like charging for soft drinks and water, charging a fee to send emails after you had purchased a block of internet time. As I overheard one passenger say, "This is a cheap bunch". Maybe I am too picky but our experience with Royal Caribbean spoiled us.

We were lucky to have two great cabin stewards and we tipped them directly, over and above the flat fee, for all they did for us. The rest of the crew could have taken lessons from these two hard working, happy fellows.

You are a vetern cruiser. What other lines would you recommend?

Nice to hear you had the opportunity to actually see St. Petersburg on your cruise. As for your question on when we found out about the itinerary change, see the new thread I posted tonight under the title, Dream becomes Nightmare on April 28. It goes into detail of what the 1600 passengers on our cruise had to contend with, along with the nightmare we are still dealing with in trying to recover $$ still owed us. I expect others to begin commenting on their experiences aboard the "nightmare" cruise.

As for what other lines to use? I love Princess Cruises for the quality and consistancy of their product at a reasonable price. While not the fanciest or most elegant in the industry, in my opinion they probably offer the best value for money. Happy cruising, BAS
