Anyone going on the Dawn on 5/13/06 w/o the kids?

Did you go and what did you think? What was your destination? I'm looking to go on the Dawn in September and I'm hearing terrible reviews.

I've read both many good and bad reviews.

But, and this is important, read carefullly why the reviewers like or dislike a ship. Many dislike Freestyle Dining, and the complications that come with this style for seating at dinner. My point is, often those that write bad reviews often like the ship, but dislike Freestyle Dining. On other reviews, it was a bad shore excursion that caused the bad review. Again, you have to look hard to see what they didn't like about the ship or the crew. You'd be surprised at how many bad reviews state the crew was very accomodiating and willing to serve.

Likewise, many who write great reviews like Freestyle Dining, or got lucky with an upsell.

So, take the time to read the entire review, both bad and good, and decide what may have caused what they wrote. For example, the selection or quality of food aboard is often stated as the reason for their grade. Well, while you do eat three times a day, it's still just a small part of the entire cruise experience. Some will suggest it's the most important aspect of the cruise experence. Food selections and quality is very subjective. I've read reviewers state completely the opposite on the same cruise......How can that be?

If you like to be on the go, go, go, you'll love the Dawn. We sailed on her last November, and I rate it as one of our worst cruises, but it was our fault for not studying the intinery closely. All of 3 hours in Jamaica, and only 4 hours in Nasau. Seemed we were always on the move, and after awhile you really yearn to set foot on land for awhile. Most dinners also took about 2 1/2 hours, which really cuts into time spent doing other things like attending shows or other entertainment. Another tip, bring a spoon from home for the lunch buffet. Seems Norweigian dosen't think you need one for breakfast or lunch buffet. It is interesting stiring your coffie with a knife.
All in all, having been on six previous cruises, three on Norweigian ships, this was the worst, and I don't know if it was the fault of "freestyle" or the new policy adopted by the company. Also, some of the crew were excellent, while others were downright rude. The cruise director falls into the later catagory.
Good luck on your cruise. Me ? We're going back to Celebrity and Holland America.

Wow, that concerns me. However, I have been on both an NCL and Princess cruise that offers "Freestyle and Personal Choice" dining and a casual atmosphere. I'm not concerned necessarily with that as I enjoyed it. And, the itinery is excellent with plenty of "land" time in various ports of call so that shouldn't be a concern either. What I worry about is overall service. While Ron expresses some good points, I can't help but wonder if he is working for NCL in an effort to offset bad reviews within this forum. Regardless I will take his suggestions to heart and hopefully, NCL is listening to these forums and working on keeping up service on these amazing ships. This will be my 2nd NCL cruise and I hope for many more...but then, that depends on them, doesn't it?
