Anyone visit Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa port?

Hi
Im going on the NCL Star Mexican Riveria cruise. One of the ports is in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa. We are there for a short time I'm thinking spending time on the beach and shopping would be best. I also heared Isla Ixtapa island is really pretty to relax and snorkel but is there something better to do while we are in port? Its myself, hubby, 18yr and 5yr and we are in port from 7am to 2pm.

I guess my question is have you been there and if so whats the best thing to do for a family of four. Thanks for your replys

We did horseback riding, which was GREAT and then had about an hour to walk the shops near the port.

Time is definitely a factor in your decision. I took the short boat ride to isla ixtapa. I wasn't cruising with NCL but it was basically the same excursion that they offer. It is a beautiful place and lots to do. Plus, the seafood is fabulous. A couple travelling with us took the party catamaran trip. They loved it but I don't know how enjoyable it would be for a five year old.

It is a beautiful Port, the food there is fantastic!!

Definitely the best port on your itinerary. You will love it. We have done two different Mexican Riviera itineraries, and this is the best port of both of them.
