Who's been to the NYC port?

I have the directions to the port which say turn at 55th and then go straight into the terminal. I have been looking at aerial views of the Carnival pier and 12th and 55th but can't see how you actually get up there. Who has good directions. To me it looks like we drive straight and then left. Are there signs at the end of 55th? Just want to make sure we know where we are going.

If my memory serves me right, when you come up to 12th avenue you will have to turn one way North. You may have to then do a "U" to get on West Side Highway. There are offramps to get to pier. You can't miss the ships.
