Hi all! We will be on the Celebrity Zenith for New Years to Panama. Our question is this: Has anyone done the Two Ocean Railroad Journey By Dome Car? It's $159.00 pp and takes place on an air-conditioned train with continuous glass enclosure from the windows, across the top, to the other side of the train. It does seem kind of expensive. It's about a 7 hour excursion with lunch included. We did something similar on our Alaska cruise. We took the Alaska railroad from Seward to Anchorage. We sat in a dining car with the wrap around windows. The scenery was outstanding. That trip was about 3-4 hours and the cost was only about $50 pp.

We took the Dome Car excursion out of Colon a year ago. We were on the Celebrity Summit.
The train ride was very interesting, comfortable, and enjoyable. We had one big disappointment in that we didn't see any of the locks on the canal. We had thought there would be more interaction with the canal; such as, the train would stop at one of the locks so that we could see it up close.
Maybe we were naive, but that was what we expected (and we were not alone). Several people complained to the excursion desk about this. We received a partial refund because the brochure had said something about experiencing the canal and this really wasn't the case.
Other than that, we enjoyed the trip, we saw some big ships plus a lot of the interior of Panama. It was nice to see the Panama City area when we got to the West Coast.
If you want to see Panama, this is a nice excursion. If you want to experience the canal and how it works, I would recommend a different choice.
Thanks for your response. Since Rita is retired and I am just tired, we are just looking for comfortable excursions. Your description sounds like what we are looking for. We are probably more interested in seeing Panama than the locks. At least, in Rita's case. Where there any stops with shopping opportunities?

Hi All:
We are on Brilliance March 16, 2007. Have booked the Dome Car Train Excursion. My question concerns Handicap Access. My wife has limited walking ability so we travel with a small battery powered scooter. I wrote to RCCL about walking distances and they came back with a reply of 326 meters total walking. Seems like a pretty definite answer but is it broken up into smaller segments. She will certainly make the attempt but would like to know what trip entails.
