Hotel and Things to do in New Orleans

We recently changed the ship we were sailing to leaving out of New Orleans. Anyone got any good suggestions on hotels close to the port that are fun for famililes but still reasonable??
Also what are some fun things any of you reccommend or nice restaurants that would be good to take in. We will probably go to New Orleans on Friday before we sail on Sunday.

Yes, I think the Acme Oyster Company is a "don't miss' in New Orleans. Besides oysters, they serve fresh seafood and it is a favorite with locals as well as savvy visitors. While Bourbon Street is pretty seedy, many of the other streets in the old section are wonderful for shopping and sightseeing. You can take a cruise on the Mississippi from the paddle wheel terminal on the river. Lots to do and see in New Orleans and it is all within eaqsy walking distance from the port.

If the weather is a bit much to be outside for very long, the Riverwalk mall is right by the cruise port, with all sorts of big stores, little boutiques, and fun food places to check out. The Riverwalk itself is a nice place for a walk, and it runs along the river all the way from the cruise terminal to the French Quarter. At least one of those little river cruises Tom was talking about leaves from there.

Oh that sounds wonderful. Is it kind of link San Antonio?? It sounds a little like it and that is one of my all time favorite places to go in the US.
