The Bahamas has implemented a head tax increase for all guests entering the Bahamas. The head tax will be $3.00 per person. So far, Norwegian Cruise Line is the only cruise line I've seen to make the announcement they will collect the additional $3.00 on cruises sailing October 1, 2010 and beyond, that haven't been paid in full.

Instead of charging an additional $3, they should be refunding $3 for the hassle of going through the terminal in Nassau! What a mess that is. I liked it better when you could just go out and get a taxi without being herded like sheep. It is often total confusion for new cruisers. When I am with new cruisers I tell them to follow me through the mess to see the taxi man. This one elderly lady was so confused she held my hand the whole way. What can I say? Once a Boy Scout, always a Boy Scout.

Now in all fairness the port at Freeport has greatly improved since my first visit many years ago. It looked like an abandoned oil rig or coal mine back in those days and you disembarked to a gravel parking lot with a fence around it. It has been tremendously upgraded with shops and more organized taxi options.
