ARE THE LEAVES CHANGING?

How are the leaves in the New England/Canada ports... we leave in a week and we really want to see some fall colors....

We are still in the midst of green leaves on the coast.

That's what I was afraid of. We watched the seasons change last year to guess when to make this year's cruise reservation and this time of Sept 28 was good last year...however...I'm thinking we're to early this year. As you know, you can't predict leaves changing any more than the path of a hurricane! Oh well we'll keep our fingers crossed that by Oct 7th- when we return something will have changed. Thanks Lisa

You may get lucky and see a little bit of change. I live in Central Ontario and our leaves have started to change a little. We had a pretty dry summer, so the leaves probably won't be as colourful this year.

Shari, I agree with Charming that you'll very likely see some fall colors, even though peak season will be later than usual this year. Your best chance is further north than where I am located -- Bar Harbor and into Canada. It won't look like what you might see in the brochures, but I'm sure you'll find it pretty nonetheless.

For what it's worth, I would have picked the last week in September/early October for a New England cruise myself. Any earlier, you'd miss the chance for fall colors completely, and any later and the weather might be too cold. (We saw snow in Newfoundland in October 1999.) As you said, the peak season itself is unpredictable so far in advance. I hope that makes you feel better. And, I know you'll enjoy your cruise!

My travels take me daily between the Freeport and Bath area and I've yet to see much in the way of color changes. I would agree that the last week of Sept and 1st week in Oct is a great time and the weather is still welcoming on the New England coast even if the leaves are peaking.

Thanks Lisa and Peter. It does look like rain is moving into the area just prior to our arrival...maybe they'll hurry up and change just for us!
Being from FL any color is fall for us and the coolest of weather (the 60's in the day) is COLD to us.
