traveling through Houston

I'm coming from San Antonio to Galveston. Anyone have any advice from I-10? Should I go through or around Houston?

I am not sure this will help, but everytime I go (into George Bush International), I take the outer loop around Houston rathen than try to go through it. Everyone I have ever talked to has told me this is the only way to go.

I am cruising from Houston in November and flying Southwest into Houston Hobby and will then go through downtown on my way to Galveston. I will let you know how it is.
