Inexpensive hotels in San Francisco

I have seen a few on Sidestep.com but not knowing the area very well I thought I would look for suggestions here. I have looked at Nob Hill motor inn or the Wharf Inn. Most importantly I will be renting a car and dont wish to pay extra for parking. Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

I know that the prices for parking are almost the highest I´ve ever seen. So we decided not to hire a car, during our time in SF and took the public transportation.

But I think, we have many professionals here, to answer your question about an inexpensive hotel. And that would be interesting for others, too.

Thanks, that what Im hoping for. Im flying into SF and leaving from Oakland to Seattle a few days later for an Alaska Cruise. Having a car is less expenive than the cost to and from the Airports. In addition I wish to drive to Sausalito. There are a few hotels that include parking. While in the city itself I will use public transportation.
