Does anyone know if this is a risky venture or not ? Are taxis readily available for this trip to the port ? Any idea what we can expect cost wise ? We are debating driving in, but with cost of gas, 14 hours in the car each direction & port parking fees... wondering if it might be just as easy to fly ? Any thoughts ?

As a follow up... for anyone who wants to know... we found a limousine service called Extreme Elegance operating out of the Houston airports to the Galveston pier ! Its CHEAPER than the Carnival shuttle, much more personal and what a great way to travel in style !
I HAD to take a taxi from IAH airport to Galveston - about $150.00. We had extreme elegance booked to pick us up, but our flight was really late so the driver left.
It was a really bad & expensive experience. I checked my voice mail when the flight got in, and extreme elegance never left a message to let us know the driver was not going to wait. After searching the airport for our extreme elegance ride for over an hour, it was so late we had to taxi it. I will never make a reservation through them again.
I know nothing about Extreme Elegance but there is a new limo service in the Houston area with "Strecth Hummers" It is owned by a husband & wife team. Their standard charge is $200 for three hours, but I am sure if it is just a "shuttle" service from Hobby or IAH they would negoiate. They can be reached at 713-660-8016 and have a mobile number as well that they will probably give to you. Ask for Mitch or Yolanda.
Extreme Elegance has the worst rep I have ever seen, on another board I am on they pretty much sent a letter to the administrator of the board and called her a lying b***h. A taxi is around $105.00 I believe, and enterprise rent a car is $68.00. thats who I am using. if anyone would like to know the name of a good taxi driver in Galveston let me know and I will give you his name and number.
