One of our ports is Nassau - not one of our favorite ports in the past. We decided it might be fun to go to Atlantis while there. Any thoughts on whether to book the ships excursion or just grab a water taxi ourselves? Thanks

If you just want to go over to Atlantis I would do a self tour. You can walk around and enjoy some of the free views of the aquarium. The also have a tour you can buy at the resort, I don't recall the details. The ticket office is in the casino. I personally wouldn't take the water taxi, some think it is unsafe. It is also a good walk from the terminal to Atlantis. There is a nice free beach beside The resort. The taxi fare is $4 and will drop you at the entrance of Atlantis.

Right whenyou get off the ship there is a building where you can sign up to do lots of things...if you dare. We were hussled into a group wanting a cab (van) ride to Atlantis and Cabbage beach. It was $4 pp. we actually tipped a buck a person as well. Be prepared as you go over a toll bridge the driver will ask someone in the van for a buck....Coming back there is no toll.
If we walked through the building to the back we could have gotten a taxi cheaper. But it was ok because we felt there was safety in numbers.
They dropped us off in front of Atlantis. We walked the lobby where they have large cool aquariums. (They have larger ones for $$$) Outback we took pictures and watched kids swimming with the stingrays. We then went out front and to the left there were some sops/ice cream etc. Then we walked to theotherside of the Atlantis and down 2 hotels to Cabbage Beach! The BIGGEST waves I've ever seen. Bring a blanket for the ground/towels...when you are done there is the path back up to the main road and several taxi drivers waiting to take tourist back. (Pick one that's not drinking!)LOL

Can you pay to use the resort? Were taking a cruise there in December and would like to save money if possible.

Hi Vivanco- I answered booking tours on your own in your other post, but since this is a direct question I will help here also.

Yes you can just get yourself to Atlantis and pay to use the resort (day pass) I have NOT done this as its been forever since we have been to Nassau. But if you use the search feature of the forum you will find many posts on Atlantis. Someone had said in the past that there is a hotel across the street from Atlantis that had a use agreement with the resort and if you book a hotel room there you saved money on the day pass but that is old information.

Use a land taxi (the water taxi gets over loaded and in many peoples opinions are not safe). You can google on the Atlantis resort, go to their website and get current pricing. Then you can determine how much you would save doing it on your own. If it was one or two people it might not be much but on 6 people (or is it 7?) it adds up quickly (keep in mind you will probably need two taxis) Come back here for help there are several members that have recently been to Atlantis.
