Anyone know about the skyride to Paradise Point? Cost? How to get there? Worth it? Any information on the port would be appreciated. What about Megans Bay (beach)? We will be there in March next year and am starting to look at shore activities. Yahoo, another cruise!!
The Sky Ride is $21 per adult for a roundtrip ticket. Once up to Paradise Point there is a couple shops and a bar where you can get the famous Bushwhacker drink. It's beautiful views of the ships in the harbor below and of the island. You could also take a taxi up to Paradise Point. Magen's Bay is one of the top beaches in the world. St. Thomas also has several other nice beaches like Sapphire Beach, and Coki Beach. You can also take a ferry across to St John and visit Trunk Bay which is also on the list of top beaches in the world.
Hi Bub; on our last cruise we went to Megan's Bay for a few hours and enjoyed the beach. In the afternoon, we took the ride up to Paradise Point, walked around the top, took some great pictures of our ship in the bay below, and then enjoyed a leisurely drink while we took in the views. It was very interesting because as we were enjoying the views, we were able to witness a front coming in to St. Thomas and eventually a quick squall that came over the island and ended almost as quickly as it started.
Thanks Cruise fanatic, Peter1 and Dwayne,
Sounds like a great plan - Paradise Point, then Megans Bay. How far away is Megans Bay and how much for a taxi there? What are your thoughts on renting a car?
Megan's Bay is about a 8-12 minute ride. The cab fare is approximately $12-16/pp. My thoughts on renting a car are: 1.) roads are narrow, 2.) they use horns more than brakes, 3.) traffic is really congested when ships are in port, 4.) they drive on the opposite side of the road, 5.) gas is very expensive. I would not do it, however, I know some that have and have had a ball. You can't really get lost since there aren't many highways, ok 1 1/2 lane roads. Check out the prices and insurance on-line before deciding. Most of the major US companies operate down there.
I'm just not that brave. We did rent a scooter in Cozumel and had a ball. Once we got out of the city, the traffic was nonexistent, but St. Thomas is much busier. I'm not trying to discourage you, but your plans sound great to me. Most of the drivers will stop and let you take pictures and they know all the good places.
