While in Key West, why not check out Ernest Hemingway's house? Then see his six toed cats.
Check out the bars and hot spots along Duval Street.
There is a land marker there at the end of one street that says "Southernmost Point in the USA"Maybe you can stop by and see it and get your picture taken in front of it?
Make sure to get a key lime pie, or the other thing Dave mentioned, or key lime juice.
Check out Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. Which if I remeber is allot like Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, or similar restaurants.
That is all I can think of at the moment. Have a good time on your cruise
I go to Key West 3-4 times a year, and every time is different....unfortunately, I've never done with children in tow.
But I'd like to thank you all for making me double-check my Key West stop, we are staying still 6pm. WOO HOO !!! My brother lives there and we are gonna surprise him, and help hime with his Christmas shopping !!

In Key West, a visit to the Little Whitehouse, as Harry Truman called it, is highly recommended.. This is a very interesting place where Harry Truman (who had very little money to spend on a vacation home) spent his vacation time. It was a US Naval station that was converted to a private residence (at very little cost because it is such a modest place)for Truman. It is an important part of American history and takes about an hour and a half or so.
Also, walk down the main street to the end and see the southernmost point of the USA.
We really enjoyed the Butterfly House. They had so many different types of butterflies and their gift shop was very unique. Not your typical gift shop junk. And I'm not a shopper!!

I found it very interesting, but I have a thing for Pirates..hee-hee. Pretty pricey, $15 adult, and $7 for kids, you can coupons in just about every free magazine on the street, or buy online and save a few $$. I think the Mel Fisher is a better museum. Also check out the Wyland Galleries, not museums, but could be, free and gorgeous artwork you may all recognize.

Just don't do what I did my first time there in 1994... Which was to hit every local bar and THEN rent a moped. My memories are a bit foggy but I remember a couple of passing motorists helping me lift the moped over the retaining wall somewhere near Stock Island after I accidentally wound up on US 1 heading lord knows where.
