It seems that the dry cleaning service on the Emerald, Coral & Golden Princess has been discontinued. From what I heard it will be discontinued on the other ships as well. Another Elite perk bites the dust.

Another "going green" initiative? Their machines probably used "PERC". There is a CO2 dry-cleaning process but the equipment is quite expensive and probably not suitable for a ship.

For the record, I am not a believer in global warming.

Rich, do you mean discontinued altogether, or just no longer a perk for Elite? How can they eliminate it altogether? I can see getting along without it on a 7 day; but what about a 14 day Hawaii cruise, or an 18 day repositioning cruise. And right at a time when people are really counting on it so they can pack less to avoid baggage fees! I would expect a huge backlash on this. It could mean the end of "Formal Night" as we know it.

ELIMINATED altogether for everyone. Something about making the ships "greener".
It's spreading thought out the fleet.
I don't know why you would think it would have any effect on formal nights, but if it does it great by me. I hate getting dressed in anything formal although I do, only because of the wife.
I was just on the Emerald & didn't take notice because I had my suite cleaned on the previous cruise. I used to use the perk only because I hate their laundry service but I suppose I'll have to give it a try again on longer cruised.

I was thinking of the longer cruises with more formal nights; how many times can you were a tux, or even a suit before it needs cleaning? I suppose if you were really careful you could get by with a pressing; but if you spill something--like I usually do--you're out of luck.

They still do laundry & pressing from what I gather. It's just the dry cleaning that's being eliminated. It could be possible be replaced with different chemicals in the future. (I hope)
Got to be real careful or wear dirty suit pants.
