Repositioning Cruises

Per my earlier post, my wife and I are scheduled for the Sept 08 re-positioning cruise on the Dawn Princess. Our only other cruise experience was a 3 day cruise 20 years ago and have lots of questions. How do you pack for a cruise this long, and what can we expect for on-board activities on at sea days?

Hi B Jacobsen, welcome to Cruise-Chat. One of the good things on the Dawn is that there is self-service laundry available. That way you won't have to pack for the entire time. I would suggest bringing some warm weather clothes as well as some summer clothes. Also, bring some rain gear. They also have laundry service available on board. Your cruise should be a wonderful experience, being able to visit many ports and many types of climates. I'd suggest bringing at least 2 swim suits, so one can be drying while you're in another. Hi B Jacobsen. Is this the 31-Day Hawaii/Tahiti/South Pacific cruise from San Francisco to Tahiti?

Laundry shouldn't be a problem. As Penny mentioned, there are self-service laundromats on board--plus, Princess also has a laundry service for a charge. If it's anything like we had in the past, your clothing will come back pristine. (They even pressed our blue jeans!) So, I'd pack enough for a couple of weeks, and have laundry done about midway through the cruise.

There will also be plenty to do on sea days. As you will be crossing the equator, look for the special ceremony to commemorate the event. I'm sure there will be other activities such as movies, lectures, live shows (we had a pianist on one long cruise, for instance), and of course the casino!

A little more information about this cruise. We leave SF on 9/24, 31 days to Sydney. Ports include Honolulu, Kona, Christmas Island, Bora Bora, Papeete, Moorea,Rarotonga, Pagp Pago, Suva, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and a cruise through Fjordland. My wife and I are very familiar with the Hawaiian Islands and spent two weeks in the Cook Islands in 2005. The other ports are new. We enjoy snokeling and seeing the local areas.

I've talked to many about the snorkeling there and they say it is fantastic. Sounds like a fantastic itinerary, with quite a variety of scenery and climates. Hopefully, some of our Australian and New Zealand members will see your post and offer some suggestions for must sees. I'm looking forward to your review. What a marvelous cruise it should be.
