Don't understand at all! But, at least she didn't end it all by stepping in front of a car, bus or train, and forcing an uninvolved vehicle operator to live with her choice. Afterall a ship's crew can't bear too much responsibility for someone deciding to jump!

I do not think anyone can understand suicide until you are in a situation. It sounds like she either did not have family or they lived far away. She had a terminal illness and may have been a widow. She probably felt she had no one to live for and was dying anyway. She probably felt this was the best way. No one having to deal with funeral arrangements and expenses. I would hope if she did have family she would have left a letter but so many don't.
Was this at the beginning or end of the cruise? I hope she at least enjoyed Alaska up to the time she decided to end it all. Must have been hard seeing all the people around her with friends, family and spouses having a wonderful time and she was all alone. A person feels so helpless at that moment. I have known in my lifetime too many people who have chosen to end their life. The first being when I was 13 and our 18 yo neighbor hung himself. I am sure he felt life was so bad at the time. I have never forgotton the scene as I was the one who found him.
Not only do I pray for her but I pray for all those who will choose to end their life because they feel they have no where to turn.
