Which Cruise Line

We are looking into a cruise for April 2006
The ages going are: 48, 40, 16, 14
The debate is between Royal Carib or Carnival. Any suggestions?

I would strongly recommend Royal Caribbean over Carnival. Carnival is a glorified booze cruise with fair service and food. Royal Caribbean, on the other hand, is wonderful. I just got back from Alaksa with my children (11 and 7) and everyone had an absolute BLAST! Kid's programs are the best and they have activities for children too including their own nightclub. Your children are so entertained on the ship that you may hardly see them. This will leave time for the adults to enjoy a few things too!

On the other hand, the newer Carnival ships can be quite nice - large cabins, good food, etc. The "glorified booze cruise" is less true of Carnival in recent years, especially for 7 nights or longer. That said, RCCL's kids program does have a lot of people who recommend it.

Why not talk with a knowledgeable cruise-oriented travel agent near you? If you let them know some of your own preferences - types of vacations you have enjoyed, etc. - they can probably help steer you to the cruise line best suited for you.

Having sailed both I can easily recommend Royal Caribbean over Carnival any day of the week. Carnival is fine if you want to party and look at neon all week long. But if you are interested in better food and service, nicer ships, something other than drinking and enjoying the complete vacation then RCCL is the way to go. They have plenty to do and offer something for all ages so I think everyone will be happy with Royal Caribbean. Enjoy no matter what you go with.
