We are looking to book either room C305 or C307 on the Caribe deck of the Island princess for a late August cruise to Alaska. This is our first time cruising so I am unsure if this is a good choice for a cabin. Is a departure date of 8/31 too late in August to enjoy Alaska?

Thank you for any information you provide. We are getting very excited to book our trip!

C305 or C307 look like very good choices. I went on the Island Princess September 5-13, 2003. It wasn't the warmest weather, but it also wasn't the coldest. The second time I went to Alaska was August 10-17, 2007 the weather was nice the whole time and around 70. Alaska is very unpredictable and the best thing to do is just take clothes for all weather. Take clothes you can layer.

Having never been on a cruise - are these rooms too close to the front that you are more likely to get sea sick?

You are ordinarily no more likely to get sea sick in the bow (front) than you are anywhere else. If the seas are that bad nobody will be feeling sporty, regardless of their cabin location. For those who are especially susceptible to motion sickness, cabins on the lowest deck in the center of the ship sometimes provide the least motion.

I think you will find C305 or C307 to be an excellent location. You are right next to the stairs and lifts (don't worry--there will be no noise problem); you have an easy 3 flights up to the Horizon Court and pools and an easier 3 down to the Promenade deck. You have cabins above you and below you, and you are not near any equipment. And your balcony is covered by the balcony above you. Excellent location.
