Go with Grand Princess by all means. It is a fantastic ship. Really good entertainment, great food, great cabins, and a much higher quality clientele than Carnival. You won't be sorry.
Princess rules! We've only sailed on RCL, NCL, Carnival, HAL, Costa and Princess, but to me Princess does it best. We just returned from the Costa Magica, it was a beautiful ship, lots of fun, and had a marvelous time. I wouldn't hesitate to book Costa again. I told my husband that Costa was way better than Carnival, but Princess was still my favorite. We haven't sailed on the Grand, just the Sea, Sun, and Dawn, but everyone that I've talked to that has sailed on her comment about not feeling crowded. We're booked on the Emerald for November which is the sister to the Crown. I can't wait to explore her. In my opinion, you wont be disappointed with Princess. Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!
raffles, is the Grand Princess cruise the Canada/New England itinerary? If so, I highly recommend it. It's very port-intensive, so there are few of the sea days she might not like, and there is much to do in each port.
raffles, did you book the Canada/New England trip on the Grand? My wife and I are booked leaving Quebec City on 10/17/07 and heading all the way to Ft. Lauderdale.
Hi Papa Bear
We are on that cruise too. I think it leaves on the 18th not the 17th October. Should be a great cruise. Maybe a little cold over the first few days. Our 5th trip with Princess but the first on Grand. Really looking forward to it!
I've never been on Grand Princess, but I went on Carnival Miracle in May and we had a wonderful time. Best cruise yet...they seem to get better every time.
Either way, you probably can't go wrong.

Raffles - I just finished my Miracle cruise out of NYC a week or so ago. It looks like you may have already made up your mind, but if you have any questions about the ship or the cruise itself, I would be happy to answer them. We had a great time on the Miracle.
