Sherry, People are allowed to smoke on their cabins & I'd have to say that the smoke problem doesn't seem to be a factor on any of the Princess ships I've been on. Yes the rooms do have an individual thermostat by I wonder if it works at times. We were on the Dawn Princess to Alaska & the temp was set on max cold during the entire week. It wasn't overly warm but it could have been cooler. We've never had a problem in the Caribbean. Perhaps they turned off the AC since it wasn't really needed.
RichC, I have suspected for years that the thermostats on the walls in Princess cabins are for decoration only. I have never been uncomfortable, but I have never seen a thermostat adjustment make a noticeable change; I think the temperature is going to be what the temperature is going to be.
I didn't want to exactly say that Rick but I think you're right. I heard a few other people on our Alaskan cruise say the same thing- they weren't overly warm but even with the thermostat set at max cool it was still on the warm side.
At least some look like thermostats. I've been on older ships where the temperature control was just opening or closing the vent in the a/c duct. That is how it is on the Holiday.
Our cabin thermostat worked perfectly on our recent cruise on Grand Princess. But then as I mentioned in my Grand Princess post many things had been overhauled and improved on this ship. We were able to get extra heat when we came back from a vist to the North Cape and we were able to have the cabin cooler for sleeping. Ideal!
