taking wine aboard in luggage?

Will we be permitted to take a couple bottles of wine aboard the Sun Princess in our luggage to use in our cabins, when we first board? We would like to take some with us to be able to enjoy in the evenings on our balcony. I don't want to take it with us if it will be taken away.

How about liquor?

Princess' official policy only provides for wine being brought aboard. However, many people report that they have brought a bottle or two of their own spirits aboard at embarkation with no problems. Things do change at the cruise port stops though, and they will take any booze at the ship's entrance and hold it for you until the ship returns home.

Just a cautionary note. It is fine to pack and bring wine on board, but to make sure you don't have a mess on your hands, I'd recommend wrapping it well then putting it in oversize ziplock bags. I double bag just in case, but I'm pretty paranoid. So far no problems, though.

How stringent the liquor thing is seems to depend on the ship. I've seen people waltz on board with liquor from port on some ships, and seen others where it is confiscated and held for disembarking. I don't recall ever hearing about anyone having liquor confiscated from checked luggage, but I expect it could happen.
