Hi gang. I have two weeks of the last of August and I know the Caribbean is in Hurricane season June 1-Nov 30 so would it be safe to go then? Penny you say the water is warmer then (thus hurricanes), but whats the chances of having a good cruise and miss them? I love the warmer water. By the way your pictures are wondeful and sparking the interest

You should always get insurance, no matter what time of year you cruise. Cost depends on what you want, your age, cost of the trip. I recommend people compare policies at insuremytrip.com and see. We always look for medical evacuation coverage as part of it. The companies I use are Travel Insured, CSA, and Travelex. Lately I have gone with Travel Insured but all three are well regarded.
I totally agree with Dave. Book in August and definitely get insurance. We've had great luck going during hurricane season and have had great weather. In September we were on the NCL Sky and Ike was pounding the states. You would never have known if it weren't for the news. We didn't see a cloud in the sky the entire time!
We used to sail without insurance & took our chances but after hearing about some of the evacuation costs we now always get it. I'm willing to accept losing money for lots of things but a $10 or $15 K charge isn't one of them.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to purchase insurance after the the cruise is paid for but well before embarkation? I am having second thoughts after reading some of the horror stories.
Hi TXFrank. Welcome to Cruise-Chat.I believe you can purchase cruise insurance after final payment, but think you'd have to go with an outside agency, not the cruise line. Best wishes and have a great cruise!

Thank you Penny; that confirms some of what I read after I posted. Any advice on what to look for in an outside insurance offer? I don't know what distinguishes one offer from another.
